구약시대 다윗의 군대가, 부자 나발의 성과 양과 소떼를, 악한 짐승이 해치지 못하게 지켜 주었습니다. 다윗이 어느 날 신복을 나발에게 보내어, 떡과 포도주를 조금 달라하였습니다. 그러나 나발은 미련하고 무분별하여, 다윗의 요청을 거절하며. 선을 악으로 갚았습니다.
